FMS Returns to
Connecticut’s Waterford Speedbowl
This
past Saturday, the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series
made their second stop at the Waterford Speedbowl
(Waterford, CT) for the running of the ‘Big Y World
Class Market 150.’
With
an 8:30 PM start time, Renee joined a total of 30
starters for driver introductions on the front stretch
of the 1/3-mile oval. From the drop of the green flag,
it was apparent that track position would be of
paramount importance. The damp evening - combined with
various fluids leaking from several cars - put passing
at a premium. Nonetheless, Renee survived many accidents
and a failing clutch to eventually finish in the 17th
position. She remains ranked 19th in the points
championship.
Next, the No. 90 team will compete in the revamped
‘Thompson Sunoco 300’ event on Sunday, September 12.
Long
considered the crown jewel on the NASCAR FMS schedule,
this year’s event will consist of three separate one
hundred-lap races. The starting line up will be
determined by four qualifying races (not time trials),
with the top eight finishers advancing to the 300. In
addition, three qualifiers will come from a ‘last
chance’ race, with the final five positions awarded to
provisional starters. All three segments will have a
starting field of up to forty cars and a winner will be
declared at the completion of each separate race.
Moreover, a $10,000 bonus will be awarded to a driver if
he/she wins all three of the one hundred lap races. A
driver winning two of the segments will be awarded a
$5,000 bonus.
We
look forward to updating you again after the ‘300.’ |
