15th IN STAFFORD MAKE-UP SHOW
Team Earns ‘Powerade Power Move of the Race’ Award
Following inclement weather on Friday May 27, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returned to Connecticut’s Stafford Motor Speedway – on Sunday, July 3 – to complete the 15th annual running of the Haynes Material 150.
Prior to the start of the race, all WMT teams participated in an hour-long trackside Pit Party. Joining in the festivities, WMT regular Renee Dupuis met with fans, signed autographs and posed for pictures.
Starting from the 30th position (the No. 90 team suffered a blown head gasket during qualifying back on May 27th and used a provisional starting spot); Renee got caught-up in a lap 16 wreck. “This is the second race in a row where we’ve slowed up enough to avoid a wreck, but have gotten nailed from behind,” she offered.
Despite the flat left rear and damaged left front – the team rebounded by making it to the tenth position by about the lap 40 mark. Said Renee “we got the ‘lucky dog’ there, but the guys did an amazing job of making quick repairs. I never would have guessed the car would have been that competitive after the damage we received.”
While remaining on the lead-lap, the No. 90 team made a scheduled pit stop at just about the halfway point in the 150-lap race. A miscue during the pit stop cost the team a few laps in the pits - and shortly thereafter - another lap on the track.
In the final rundown, Renee came home in 15th place. More importantly, the team was awarded the ‘Powerade Power Move of the Race’ award for advancing the most positions during the event.
Next up, on Saturday July 9, the team will head to Jennerstown Speedway – located about an hour outside Pittsburgh – for another 150 - lap race.
