Ice Breaker Qualifying In the Books,
Nor'Easter Storm Postpones Race

The NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tour kicked off the
opening round of the 2007 season this past
weekend (April 14-15). In all, 47 WMT teams
assembled at the Thompson International Speedway
(CT) for the annual ‘Ice Breaker’ 150-lap event.
Saturday’s schedule played out under mostly
cloudy skies, moderate winds and cold
temperature readings. Out of the box, Renee and
the No. 90 team were pleased with their car’s
performance – making only minor chassis
adjustments prior to time trials.
“With 47 teams pre-entered for just 37 starting
spots (32 cars advance thru qualifying, with 5
provisionals), you know going in that a whole
bunch of quality teams just aren’t going to make
the show. Take a real close look at the list and
you’ll realize just how good the guys are that
are being shut out,” Renee explained. “The level
of competition is just that strong right now.”
Rolling out 33rd (qualifying
positions are determined using a random draw) to
take time, Renee’s SpaceFitters backed machine
posted the 13th fastest time of the
day. Photos from Saturday, courtesy of Howie and
Mary Hodge can be found in the 2007 gallery.
With qualifying complete and an enormous
Nor’easter bearing down on the area, officials
postponed Sunday’s card to April 22. Next
Sunday, Renee will start from the inside of the
7th row – in the 13th
spot. |
