This
past weekend teammates Renee Dupuis and Dave Etheridge
trekked to Lake Erie Speedway (North East, PA) for the
seventh event of the Featherlite Modified Series season.
The 1,000-mile round trip journey is the furthest from
home base for many of the FMS teams who call New England
home. Saturday’s show marked the Series’ second
appearance at the first-class facility.
In
any event, prior to the start of the 150-lap race, all
FMS drivers participated in an hour long autograph
session staged on the starting grid. Renee and Dave took
the time to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for
pictures.
At
the drop of the green flag, the teammates began working
thru traffic on the tight 3/8th-mile oval.
Very early on – at about lap 25 - the ring and pinion in
Renee’s car self destructed (graphically illustrated
below) – immediately ending her run. She was easily
inside the top-20 at the time of the parts failure. In
the meantime Etheridge pitted for left-front damage –
going down several laps in the process.
Following dismal runs, Dave finished 24th and
Renee 28th. Currently, Renee is ranked 19th
and Dave 25th in the seasonal point standings
(out of 74 different drivers).
Following a rare weekend off (June 19-20), Renee and
Dave are next scheduled to compete in a 150-lap race at
Wall Township Speedway (Wall, NJ) on Saturday, June 26.
